Trying to get your idea or product sold and it’s just not happening? Well the answer as to why might lie within your pitch.
Many journalists receive so many pitches on a daily basis that it takes that little spark of creativity for your idea to really be heard. According to NowSourcing, many people fail at pitches because they are just not doing their research. (C’mon guys let’s not be lazy now!)
We should all know what we are trying to sell, who we’re trying to sell it too, and the angle and style that we can approach them in. We aren’t going to pitch a lip gloss to an attorney now are we?
Many people are also not making their emails stand out and are keeping them too cliche and impersonal. Try to make your pitch personable and conversational with a balance between formal and informal writing. Also, remember the KISS rule of Keeping it Short, Stupid (Or Sweet). Say as much as you can in the shortest way possible and always put the most crucial information at the beginning of the pitch.
If you are able to tackle all of this then we’re sure you can handle the most important rule of them all: Spelling and Timing! Don’t refer to someone as Christine when their name is really Christina as this is sure to get them mad (I speak from personal experience). Also, don’t take too long to reply back and don’t pitch and idea at 2 a.m. when you’re bored and there is nothing on Netflix because you’re guaranteed to not get a reply back.
Hope these tips help guys and just remember with a little practice your sure to see your name in lights in no time.
